Peru's National Emergency Operations Center announced that due to abnormal waves along the country's Pacific coast, maritime authorities decided to temporarily close 58 ports on the country's northern and central coasts, delaying deliveries, and relevant measures will continue until January 7.
Peru's maritime ministry advised ships to anchor during the port closure and nearby residents to avoid gathering on the coast.
Peruvian maritime authorities have ruled out the possibility that the abnormal waves are related to the 7.6-magnitude earthquake in Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Morlot, head of oceanography of the Peruvian Navy, believes that the wave anomaly is related to the frequent wave strikes off the coast of California in the United States since December 28 last year, which meteorologists said was caused by a series of Pacific Ocean
Caused by a powerful storm. The navy expects waves to double in some areas, where they are normally around two meters high.
Railings were erected along the banks of Callao, Peru's largest port, and sandbags were piled up outside some buildings as workers scrambled to clear mud and rocks from the waves.
